RoboClaw 2x7A Motor Controller (V6B) — Dual Brushed DC, USB/TTL/RC/Analog, 6–34V

Build a smooth, controllable drivetrain without stacking extra boards. The RoboClaw 2x7A (V6B) is a powerful, versatile controller from Basicmicro for driving two brushed DC motors with multiple control options: USB serial (virtual COM port), TTL serial, RC servo pulses, or analog voltage. With dual quadrature encoder inputs, it’s ideal for closed-loop speed or position control—great for robots that need consistent movement even when the load changes.

  • High current dual-channel drive: supplies up to 7.5A continuous per channel with up to 15A peak, operating from 6V to 34V
  • 4 control modes: USB serial (virtual COM), TTL serial (two-way), RC PWM, or analog voltage input.
  • Closed-loop ready: integrated dual quadrature decoders make encoder feedback easy for PID speed/position control.
  • Regenerative braking + protection features: designed for robust motor control, with configurable limits/settings through software.
  • Version V6B note: configuration pushbuttons are removed—setup and tuning are done through software.
  • Includes an optional case: protective enclosure is provided; size/weight specs are listed without the case.

Why/Benefits

“One controller for the whole drivetrain”
  • Drive two brushed motors from one board with high current headroom.
  • Choose your control style: PC over USB, microcontroller over TTL serial, RC receiver, or analog joystick.
  • Screw terminals make power + motor wiring fast for prototyping.
Encoder feedback = consistent motion
  • Use encoders for closed-loop speed/position control (great for heavy robots and uneven terrain).
  • Built-in commands for acceleration/deceleration, speed, distance, current sense, and more via serial control.
  • Works well for “set-and-hold” behavior: maintain speed despite load changes.

FAQ

  • Can I use this with Arduino or ESP32?
Yes—use the TTL serial interface mode. Basicmicro also provides an Arduino library with examples for RoboClaw control.
  • Do I need encoders?
No. You can run open-loop control without feedback, but encoders unlock closed-loop speed/position control for more consistent movement under load.
  • What changed in V6B?
The configuration pushbuttons were removed; configuration is now done through software.
  • What supply voltage should I use?
Use a power source within 6–34V, sized for your motors’ current draw and your expected load.
