VNH5019 Motor Driver Carrier

VNH5019 Motor Driver Carrier -  This motor driver is based on ST's VNH5019 IC. It can handle bidirectional speed control of a solo brushed DC motor from 5.5 to 24 V and supply a continuous 12A 30A peak. It can also support PWM with ultrasonic up to 20kHz. One of the features is that it has built-in protection against reverse voltage, over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature, and over-current.

Benefits of using Adjustable Speed Drivers

1. Controlled starting current: An AC motor must be started "across the line," which can need up to seven to eight times the motor's full load current. However, the much reduced starting current when employing an adjustable speed drive increases the lifespan of an AC motor. Less motor deterioration results in longer motor life and fewer motor rewinds as the payback.
2. Reduced power line disturbances: The power distribution system connected to the motor experiences a significant drain when an AC motor is started across the line and the need for beginning current is met. The supply voltage typically drops, which can trip delicate equipment attached to the same distribution system. Computers, sensors, proximity switches, and contactors are examples of items that are voltage sensitive and may fail if a huge ac motor is started close by. This voltage sag can be eliminated by using an adjustable speed drive.
3. Lower power demand on start: An AC motor requires a lot more power to start over the line than it does with an adjustable speed drive. This is only true at first since the motor would require the same amount of power to run at load whether it had a fixed speed or variable speed.
4. Controlled acceleration: It is extremely mechanically shocking for the motor and linked load when an AC motor is started across the line. The linked load and the motor both experience increased wear and tear as a result of this shock. To prevent breakage, some applications, like bottling lines, cannot be started with motors across the line. However, a drive with variable speed starts at zero speed and accelerates smoothly up a ramp that the user can adjust.
5. Adjustable operating speed:Process improvement and change are possible with an adjustable speed drive. Additionally, it permits remote speed modification by a programmed controller or process controller, as well as lower speed starting.
