High-Torque 12V 37D Gearmotor + Encoder (30:1) for Precise Robot Motion

ThIis is a powerful 12V brushed DC gearmotor built around a rugged 37D metal gearbox (30:1) and an integrated quadrature encoder for accurate speed + direction feedback. It’s a solid upgrade for robots that need reliable torque and clean odometry—perfect for wheeled platforms, automation sliders, and closed-loop motor control.

PH note: Circuitrocks ships nationwide in the Philippines. If you’re building a robot and need help matching a driver + wheel hub, message us and we’ll point you to compatible add-ons.

Why you’ll like it

Strong torque from a durable metal gearbox, sized for real robot loads—without going bulky.

Integrated quadrature encoder gives accurate feedback; helical pinion gears help reduce noise and improve efficiency.

Pinout & power notes

  • Motor leads: connect to a brushed DC motor driver (H-bridge). Do not drive directly from a microcontroller pin.
  • Encoder output: quadrature A/B signals (plus encoder power/ground on the encoder board). Use interrupt-capable pins when possible for best counting accuracy.
  • Current headroom: design around stall current ~5.5A. Choose a driver and power source with safe overhead.
  • Noise tip: keep encoder wires away from motor power wires when possible; twisting pairs and adding basic filtering can help in noisy builds.

FAQ

  • How accurate is the encoder at the output shaft?
The encoder is 64 CPR on the motor shaft, which becomes 1920 counts per revolution at the gearbox output (30:1).
  • Can I run it at 6V?
It can spin at lower voltages, but performance will drop. For best results (and the published specs), use 12V.
  • What motor driver should I use?
Pick a brushed DC H-bridge rated for the motor’s current (plan around stall). Check our motor drivers collection.
  • What wheels/hubs fit?
The output shaft is a 6mm D-shaft. Look for 6mm D-shaft hubs/adapters or wheel adapters.
