Electret Microphone Amplifier MAX4466 with Adjustable Gain

An electret microphone module is the only thing you need to integrate sound into your microcontroller devices. This module contains a 20-20KHz electret microphone and a MAX4466 Operational Amplifier IC onboard. The MAX4466 has an excellent power supply noise rejection feature, which is perfect for delicate sound applications. You can be sure that it won't be as scratchy and windy as other mic breakout boards in the market. Moreover, the board has a tiny trimmer potentiometer to adjust the gain from 25x to 125x.

To use the microphone module, simply connect the power to 2.4 - 5VDC. For best results, choose the supply with the least amount of noise in your microcontroller board. For instance, the Arduino UNO's 3.3V is quieter than the 5V line. If you want a clearer signal, choose the 3.3V supply. The output will have a VCC/2 value when there is no sound detected. If the audio equipment you're using requires an AC coupled audio, place a 100uF capacitor between the output pin and the input of your device. If you're connecting to an audio amplifier that has differential inputs or includes decoupling capacitors, the 100uF cap is not required.
