Pololu 12V 2.2A Step-Down (Buck) Voltage Regulator D24V22F12 

Power your 12V devices from higher-voltage sources with a small, efficient buck converter. The  D24V22F12  is a synchronous switching step-down regulator designed for up to 36V input, delivering a fixed 12V output (±4%) with typical efficiencies of 85–95%. It’s a solid choice for robots, automotive-ish builds, and portable systems where heat and battery life matter.

  • Input voltage range (12V version): VIN must be about VOUT + dropout up to 36V (for D24V22F12, that’s typically listed as 12.7–36V). 
  • Output: fixed 12V with 4% accuracy.
  • Current capability: “Typical max” is 2.2A at 24V input; real continuous current depends on VIN, airflow, and heat dissipation (higher VIN generally reduces max continuous current).
  • Switching frequency: ~400kHz (compact, low ripple-friendly design). 
  • Low idle draw: about 1mA no-load typical; EN can reduce this to roughly 5–10µA per volt on VIN. Protection features: reverse-voltage protection, over-current/short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and soft-start (reduced inrush). 

*For 12V versions, the minimum VIN depends on dropout and load (drops increase with higher current).

Important notes (so buyers stop asking):
  • “2.2A” is not a guaranteed 24/7 number: continuous current is limited by heat. If your enclosure is tight or VIN is high, plan for extra airflow/heatsinking. 
  • VIN minimum is load-dependent: if VIN gets too close to 12V, the regulator can drop out and the output will sag. 
  • Board can get hot: Pololu explicitly warns it can get hot enough to burn during normal operation—mount with clearance.

Pinout & power notes

  • VIN: your input supply (up to 36V; for 12V output keep VIN above VOUT + dropout). 
  • VOUT: regulated 12V output.
  • GND: common ground (also has a second GND pad for convenient wiring). 
  • EN: enabled by default; drive low (<1V) for low-power sleep. 
  • PG: open-drain indicator output (add your own pull-up resistor). 

FAQ

  • Can I run it from 12V input?
    Usually not reliably at higher loads. Because of dropout voltage, VIN must be above 12V by a margin that increases with current. 
  • What’s the PG pin for?
    PG is an open-drain “power good” signal: it goes low when the output drops below ~85% of nominal and releases (high-Z) when output rises above ~90%. Use a pull-up resistor to read it.
  • Does it need a heatsink?
    It depends on VIN, load, and airflow. At higher power the board can run hot; design with ventilation and keep wiring neat to reduce losses.
