Pressure Sensing for Humid, Damp, and Outdoor Builds

The Adafruit LPS35HW Water Resistant Pressure Sensor - STEMMA QT is a compact breakout for measuring barometric pressure and temperature in projects that may face moisture, humidity, or damp conditions. It is a strong fit for weather stations, altitude-aware projects, environmental logging, and any build where a typical open pressure sensor may be more vulnerable.

At the heart of the board is the ST LPS35HW, a barometric pressure sensor with a water-resistant sensing package. The sensing element is protected inside a ceramic package and covered with a waterproof gel, helping prevent moisture from interfering with measurements in normal wet-use situations.

Important: The sensor itself is designed for water-resistant operation, but the breakout board is not waterproof. If you plan to use it in wet environments, the rest of the board should be sealed or protected.

Why you'll love it

  • Water-resistant sensing element: Better suited for damp and humid environments than many standard barometric sensors
  • Measures pressure and temperature: Great for environmental monitoring and compensation
  • High-resolution output: 24-bit pressure data and 16-bit temperature data
  • I2C and SPI support: Flexible connectivity for many microcontroller platforms
  • 3V and 5V compatible: Onboard regulator and level shifting make integration easier
  • STEMMA QT / Qwiic ready: Quick I2C hookup without soldering

What you can build

This breakout is ideal for weather stations, outdoor sensor nodes, humid-environment monitoring, altitude tracking, pressure trend logging, greenhouse projects, and environmental data collection systems that need reliable barometric readings.

Starter bundles

Pair it with an Adafruit Feather, Raspberry Pi, or Arduino-compatible board, along with a STEMMA QT cable, jumper wires, and a display for a quick pressure-monitoring setup.

Recommended add-ons

Useful add-ons include OLED displays, data logging boards, waterproof enclosures, battery packs, and other environmental sensors for building a more complete monitoring station.

Pinout & usage notes

The board can be used over I2C for simple wiring or SPI when your setup calls for it. The onboard STEMMA QT connectors make I2C hookup especially convenient for modern prototyping systems.

For damp or outdoor projects, keep in mind that the sensing element is water resistant, but the rest of the breakout is still exposed electronics. For long-term wet-environment use, the board should be placed in a protected enclosure or sealed appropriately.
